Description
Saprobic on dead segment of Trachycarpus fortunei. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Colonies on plant substrate effuse, straight, brown to black. Mycelium mostly immersed in the substratum. Setae 100–282 × 4–7 μm (x̅ = 192 × 5.5 μm, n = 10), numerous, erect, arising from radially lobed basal cells, straight or flexuous, unbranched, single or in small groups, thick-walled, verrucose, dark brown, paler at the apex, tapering to a pointed apex. Conidiophores macronematous, short, simple or branched, septate, sometimes reduced to conidiogenous cells, smooth-walled, subhyaline to pale brown, thin-walled, arising from basal cells of setae. Conidiogenous cells 5–12 × 4–7 μm (x̅ = 9.2 × 5.6 μm, n = 20), polyblastic, integrated, determinate, terminal, ampulliform or subcylindrical, hyaline to subhyaline, smooth. Separating cells 10–17 × 3.7–5 μm (x̅ = 14.5 × 4 μm, n = 25), fusiform, tapering to a pointed apex, thin-walled, smooth, hyaline to subhyaline, 1-denticulate at each end. Conidia 19–25 × 5.5–7 μm (x̅ = 22 × 6.4 μm, n = 25), arise directly from conidiogenous cells or from separating cells, aggregated, acrogenous, simple, dry, straight, smooth, thin-walled, turbinate to pyriform, rostrate to pointed at proximal end, truncate at distal end, hyaline with a hyaline supraequatorial transverse band. Sexual morph: Not observed.
Culture conditions: Colonies on PDA after 2 weeks reaching 9 cm diam. at 25°C, dense, cream from above, spongy, velutinous, with filiform edge, grey from reverse., septate.
